In my previous career, I spent a lot of time on railway tracks and acquired lots of decommissioned spikes that make for a nice display. This took longer than you may think as many railways have moved to more modern rail fastening systems!
The wood 'frame' is an old drawer from a garage sale; my wife helped paint the white area and clean it up. The spikes are held to the drawer with braided copper wire we got from an estate sale in Florida. Spikes are oriented west-to-east with some information tags to add some museum feel.
These Chicago bus advertisements are so incredibly 80's. My mom grew up in Chicago and has had these for years, so I built her a custom aluminum frame with background lighting to simulate their original use in front of a lighted ad board.
I tried to stay true to origin for this design with metal/glass construction, kind of regret not using tamper-resistant screws for the front, but maybe one day I'll change it up. I think the side toggle switch adds some tasteful asymmetry. This was a blast to make and I'm happy it's in a good home!
